Yasuo Watanabe, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Yasuo Watanabe, M.D. & Ph.D. is Regal Professor & Director at Yokohama University of Pharmacy, General Health Medical Center, Japan. Dr. Watanabe has a wealth of experience in functional food development in Japan and Asia, especially in the areas of cognitive health, metabolic syndrome, obesity, and immunity. Specifically, his research team has investigated the effects of the Nuruneba Diet, also known as the Sticky Japanese Diet (SJD), on reducing obesity risk. The SJD includes functional foods like shiitake, nameko, and shimeji mushrooms, tororo (a sticky food made from grating yam), and okra. His research interests include nutrition, pharmacology, neuroscience. He has served as the vice-chairman of the Japanese Pharmacometric Society board of directors.
