Professor Martin Bloem has more than four decades of experience in nutrition research and policy, devoting his career to improving the effectiveness of public health and nutrition programs through applied research, focusing particularly on low- and middle-income countries.  Martin’s career includes posts in the Netherlands, Thailand, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Singapore, and Italy.  He has co-authored and co-edited seven books and more than one hundred peer-reviewed articles. Prof. Bloem holds a medical degree from the University of Utrecht and a Doctorate from the University of Maastricht.  He has participated in task forces lead by many organizations, including the UN Standing Committee on Nutrition (SCN), the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the World Health Organization (WHO).  Martin worked as Senior Nutrition Advisor / UNAIDS Global Coordinator, UN World Food Program.
