Catherine has an international reputation in scientific research gained through a long and successful academic career in the US, Switzerland and at University College Dublin (UCD).  She is a global expert on diabetes as well as inflammation, cardiovascular and kidney diseases. Catherine is the Associate Dean, Research and Innovation at UCD’s School of Medicine as well as being Director of the Diabetes Complications Research Centre at the UCD Conway Institute and the UCD School of Medicine.  During her time with UCD she held a variety of senior management roles including Vice President, Innovation. She currently serves as a Trustee of Barts Charity, London.
