Avoid Fad Diets in Your New Year’s Resolution

Published on: Mar 9 2017

Many of us choose health-related lifestyle changes as part of a New Year’s Resolution, with weight loss being one of the most common commitments. However, on the search to lose weight, many are drawn to fad diets that promise things like rapid weight loss. While fad diets based on ideas like rigid menus or magic food combinations may lead to some weight loss, this weight loss likely comes from people simply paying more attention to what they are eating rather than the specific diet they are following. In the end, though, you will likely gain the weight back on these regimens since fad diets are difficult to stick to for the long term.

This article from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics provides some tips on how to identify and avoid fad diets, as well as some healthier tips to help you achieve your weight goals.

Healthy weight loss takes continued commitment to healthy eating behaviors and exercise, but the payoff is the ability to keep the weight off for years to come. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it is!
